Spyware Protect 2009
Most of us who use the internet daily have heard of the Conficker worm and all of the problems it has been causing millions of computers that access the web. Well, here is just another piece of the puzzle to watch out for.
Spyware Protect 2009 is malware which is installed when the Conficker worm is infected. It states that it can clean up your PC for $49.95. Experts fear that people who receive this message from the fake antivirus software are apt to click on the popup and enter in their personal information, mainly credit card numbers.
Furthermore, the virus is said to disable security software and block security websites from being accessed from the infected computer. The worm is being spread through a loophole in Windows that was patched back in October; through removable storage devices (flash drives and external hard drives for example); and by network shares that have weak passwords.
The main concern for people online is where or who the Conficker worm is targeting. IBM’s Internet Security Systems (ISS) has monitored infections of PC’s by the worm and was alarmed to see that 60% of computers infected are in Asia, 18% are in Europe and South America, with only 4% of infected PC’s being in North America. That may relieve PC owners in the US but with the Conficker worm increases in size and the lack of knowledge that internet security companies can provide we may see the numbers increase greatly.

A quick indicator to see if you've been infected with confiker is called the "Confiker Eye Chart" located at ConfikerWorkingGroup.Org. Follow the following link to arrive at their page which displays graphics pulled from security sites. If some of the graphics do not display correctly, then you might be infected by confiker worm or variants. Here's the link...http://www.confickerworkinggroup.org/infection_test/cfeyechart.html

Besides it's cheaper just to bring the PC to me for 30 bucks and get it cleaned out.
